The Captain (that is my roommate) is having a lot of trouble sewing some very stretcy fabric. She can't seem to get the tension right. She's not sure if she's doing something wrong or if she has a very crappy sewing machine. She suspects the latter.
It's a very stretchy metallic knit and it is bunching. Any suggestions/experience?
Thanks so much! I had her try the tissue trick and it did help a lot, especially with the bunching. I don't think she feels it's quite perfect but it's a vast improvement. Perhaps just a bit more adjusting.
She is using a zig zag, though she was practicing with a straight. She now things it's a presser foot problem but can't find a different one soon enough! She's moving on.

I know you can use tissue paper to help you. It's been a really long time since I've sewn with that kind of material.
You might also be using the incorrect thread. That makes a huge difference.
Here's a link with some tips. You might have to actually try a different needle too.

And yeah, trying a different stitch type like wystii suggested is a good idea too. I forgot about that.

Thank you!
