your classics, show me them

As I said yesterday, I've been on an old movie a classics kick! I'm not an expert in classic cinema, in fact there's a whole lot I've never seen. And all I have to go by is the opinions of my fellow netflixers, and those awards lists and whatnot. So I'd love to hear from you guys!

What are some of your favorite classic movies? I'm mostly looking for movies pre-70's, say, 1940-1960, but Feel free to define "classic" in whatever way makes you warm and fuzzy.

Ah, HOLIDAY! One of my absolute favorite Cary Grant movies. Love it.

Other goodies from the 40s-60s period:
Philadelphia Story
Some Like It Hot
Where Eagles Dare (if you like Clint, you gotta see this)
Great Escape
His Girl Friday
Bringing Up Baby
Guns of Navarrone (another Gregory Peck extravaganza)
Breakfast at Tiffany's
The Longest Day (pack a lunch)

Singin in the Rain

Anything by Astaire and Rogers (my favorite is Shall We Dance, but there are many)

and a favorite of mine, which is either late 60s or early 70s, What's Up Doc? (not a musical, but has music....and great chase scenes in San Francisco. And comedy.)

I'm surprised by how much I'm loving Cary Grant. He's quite endearing. And can be so silly. (I watched Arsenic and Old Lace a couple of weeks ago. Silly!)

I should have Philadelphia Story by the weekend and I'm looking forward to it! His Girl Friday and Bringing up Baby are already on my queue! I think I've seen part but not all of Breakfast at Tiffany's.

I love Clint but I've mostly seen his westerns. I wasn't sure how I'd like him as military. I watched the trailer for Where Eagles Dare. Funny how no one thought to bother with proper accents! :) I'll add it to my queue!

Musicals! Thanks. I think Singin' in the Rain is on my queue already!
