twilight
Quickly, before I run off to play with nephews/neice, I watched Twilight with running buddy last night, because her 7-yr-old neice wanted to watch it. I have to say I went in expecting it to be kind of terrible, even though I used to be an enormous fan of the vampire genre.
But I was wrong!
It was worse than that!
Gosh. It was impressively bad. The only characters I found even remotely unridiculous were the native american tribe folk, I would have watched and probably enjoyed a movie about them, but otherwise. Wow. Kids and teens, I can understand, but there are grown-ups who enjoy this stuff and I don't get it.
(No offense if you love the Twilight books/movies. I can see the appeal, just not the hugeness of its popularity.)

Don't worry; you're not alone. A friend who loves the teen angst genre went to see the movie thought it was less than medioacre but better than the book?!? because Bella was not as maudlin in the movie. She's as big a b-grade movie fan as I am, so our movie tastes are questionable at best. And while I don't put a lot of trust in her reviews (she loved the transformers movie as only an avid fangirl can), her description of Bella was enough for me to slot this into the 'on a night when I have nothing better to watch on TV' catergory.
Oddly enough most of the younger girls (below 40) in my family have read, seen and rave about it. My cousin I can understand - she probably identifies? sympathises? with Bella - being as big a flake - and my nieces have only just started high school. Don't know my sisiter-in-law well enough to pass judgement there, but she did marry my workaholic brother...
I have to admit to being curious about the sequel though... those werewolves in the promotion posters look hot. Are they the native american tribe folk? Enough eye candy with good action sequences will get me into a movie regardless of its loser points.

Definitely a "nothing else to do" kind of movie!
